Abstract
Xerophthalmia, the blinding malnutrition is indeed the major cause of childhood blindness.A fond mother unwillingly poisons the child with incorrect food'. Amidst the harsh environment of the tropics, the blind child has a sad existence ; unable to fend for himself, in the absence of an organised programme, often abandoned by family and parents, who themselves are struggling for survival.
